It has been a LONG time since I actually wrote something! I do have very good excuses, though! Things have been rather nutty in the Detweiler household for the past few weeks....
My husband was in California for three days interviewing for a new job in late February. He got the job and so we've been in the midst of lots of preparations for that. The biggest preparation is the remodeling of our home office so that Myron can have everything he needs to do his new job (which is Key Accounts Sales Rep for the Christian publisher Gospel Light). So a couple weeks ago we started sorting and cleaning and packing up our office so our friend Mark could paint and install bookshelves and new desks.
On Monday, the 27th we had Betsy's 6-month checkup (she weighed in at 20 lbs 2 oz--97th percentile!) By Tuesday night Myron and I were both starting to not feel so great and by Wednesday morning all three of us were sicker than dogs with fevers, coughs and headaches. (The pediatrician's office is a cess pool of germs!) And it's bad enough to feel rotten yourself--it's even worse when your baby is coughing and crying too!
So we all layed around for the next three days feeling terrible in the midst of the disaster that is our house, too sick to do anything about the mess!
On Friday night, just as we thought we were all starting to feel better, Betsy's cough turned into a seal bark. We called the pediatrician at 6:30 Saturday morning and got her in at 9:50 (Daddy did the honors and let me sleep since I'd been up most of the night with her). The diagnosis was croup...her first illness.
Myron was scheduled to head back to CA that Sunday for a week of orientation for his new position so I had decided to go visit my parents in Indiana for the week. But with us both being sick I didn't think I had the energy to drive four hours alone to get there. And so, Daddy to the rescue...MY Daddy! He drove up on Sunday morning and packed us up and drove us back to my parents' house (8 hours round trip). So we spent the week in Indiana recuperating and infecting Grandma and Grandpa in the process (they were very nice about it, but I sure felt bad!) Oh, and Betsy developed an ear infection too so we had to make lots of calls to arrange to get some antibiotics. Agh.
Thursday night of that week we were both feeling well enough to have supper with 3 of my high school buddies, Amy, Kirstin and Kerry. It was so good to see them and so surreal to be sitting there with them talking about kids and jobs and gardening...we're really grown ups now I guess! Betsy loved playing with Amy's five year old daughter Reagen. So cute.
After delays and cancellations and finally having to rent a car and drive home from Chicago at 12:30 in the morning, (United Airlines suck!) Myron arrived home Saturday morning and drove down to Indiana to get us later that day. We finally all got home on Sunday afternoon and we're slowly getting the office put back together and the house back in order. Whew...what a crazy few weeks.
Now if we could just get Betsy to sleep through the night again...sigh. After a week of sleeping in bed with me she has decided that her crib is the pit of despair and when she wakes up and finds herself there she must sob hysterically until Mommy gives up in total exhaustion and brings her to bed again. I am completely powerless when it comes to my sobbing daughter. I need professional help. I think I'll call Nanny 911. And pray...A LOT!
That's the latest...told you I had a good excuse for not updating! :)
