My Grandma Leah had a seizure Saturday morning and was rushed to the hospital. At first they thought that she had had a mini-stroke, but after the neurologist evaluated her MRI he thinks that she may have brain tumor. They are stopping her aspirin and and blood thinner today since she needs to be off of them for 7 days before she can have the brain biopsy. In a week she will have a biopsy of the tumor, which will involve having a small pencil-lead size hole drilled in her skull so that a needle can be put into the tumor. Then it will be sent to pathology to determine what kind of tumor it is. The biggest risks with this are bleeding in the area of the biopsy and/or a chance of reoccurrence of seizures.
She will be put on seizure medicine before sending her home. She'll come back for the biopsy and won't have to stay in the hospital the whole week prior.
Mom said that she talked to Grandma and that her speech has been affected quite a bit, either by the tumor, or because she bit her tongue so much during her seizure, or both...I'm not sure. She has a good attitude and is joking around with everyone.
Our family is really close and Grandma is my only living grandmother. Betsy's middle name, Leah, is in honor of her. I must admit that I am really scared about what this might mean for Grandma. We really appreciate your prayers as we wait for test results.
