An interesting night of firsts

Last night was the night of firsts for us....

First day of summer...

First get-together with the newly graduated seniors who will be joining our college group at church (had a fun cookout at the big lake)...

Then, on the way home at about 11:30, we had our first car accident! Not nearly as fun as the other two firsts.

I had my first ride in an ambulance. (No sirens, just lights.)

I had my first experience with being wheeled on a stretcher into the ER (it's nothing like the show! Things are pretty quiet at 12:30 am in Grand Rapids).

Had my first few hour stay in the OB ward (at least we got a first hand preview of where we'll be having the baby!)

Whew...what a night.

We were heading down Chicago Drive back from the lake (for those of you familiar with the area) and were going through a flashing yellow light when the other driver pulled out in front of us on a flashing red. Wow is it loud when cars crash! And then there was an airbag magically appearing before my eyes and lots of stinky airbag smoke. Myron was so sweet...he jumped out and was opening the door and undoing my seat belt before I could even think to do it myself. He practically carried me out and away from the car. It was really overwhelming to see that protective love in his face. What a wonderful husband I have!

The other drivers looked to be a young teenage couple. The boy had hit his mouth and was bleeding, but the girl was okay. Thankfully I don't think his injury was serious. We had people coming out of the woodwork to check on us and I bet 911 got about 6 calls between us and them. Everyone was so kind.

When the ambulance showed up they suggested that I go with them to get the baby checked out. I didn't feel hurt but felt a little tight in my tummy so after some thought I decided to have my first ambulance ride. The baby was moving around again by the time we arrived which was a big relief to me!

At the hospital they checked me out and asked lots of questions and then put a fetal heart monitor on for 20 mintues. After that they took me up to a room in the OB wing and monitored the baby for another couple hours. Myron finally got there and we both sat there feeling sleepy and watched the end of Spaceballs. :P

They told me at once time that I would be monitored for 2 hours. Then they said 4. Then they said my doctor might want me to stay 24 hours...they would have to call and find out. Thankfully we were home by about 3:00 though, since everything was checking out absolutely fine. The baby was rolling and bopping around like usual and making the heart monitor make loud noises with every move. I don't think Baby Bee felt anything but a big slosh! :)

After quick showers we were in our own bed and asleep...and oh so thankful to our watchful Father in heaven that we were safe and together.

This morning (well afternoon, since I slept until almost noon!) I was watching Myron through the kitchen window playing with the dog in the yard. You realize how very precious life is...how sweet every day things like playing with your pets or hugging your spouse truly are when you see how quickly something could happen to change that forever. Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to be reminded of that--and for your protective hand.

yOU DID NOT TELL US YOU HAD A BLOG, YOU HOLDER-OUTER!
Glad to hear you are feeling alright, your story had my heart pounding and some tears welling! I wish I could help out with the finances, but ya know we are struggling to pay our own hospital bills right now. I can pray for you, though!
