Fun Night

We're going to the Picnic Pops tonight with our pals Kevin and Lori! (I ALMOST typed Picnic Poops....that doesn't sound like near as much fun!) :O

For those who don't know, Picnic Pops is the Grand Rapids Symphony playing at an outdoor theater at Cannonsburg Ski Area so everyone comes and sits on the big grassy hill and eats and listens to music. The swing band that became famous with "Jump Jive and Wail," Big Bad Vodoo Daddy, is playing with them so it should be super fun! :)

In other news, our childbirth class is over. We toured the hospital last night and saw where the big event is going to go down. And we were taught all about what to expect from our bodies after birth. It was not pretty. Oh well...I guess you can't expect the arrival of an entire new human being to be without some side effects! :)

So my pregnancy of 40 weeks is now down to 40 days, give or take a day or so! Wow...is that amazing or what? It's still so hard to believe sometimes that I'm actually going to be someone's mother...but very, very exciting at the same time!! :)

I've been a lazy blogger

Haven't posted for awhile...bet you're all getting tired of seeing that nasty picture of Gideon chewing a pig ear! :)

Let's see...here's the latest...

Went to the doctor last Friday and was reassured that my blood pressure was only borderline high and not even consistently high enough to be diagnosed as hypertension. And with no other symptoms like headaches or swelling, the doctor said I was doing fine. Whew! What a relief. Thanks God!

This week I've been working on a couple projects. Got a quick editing project done yesterday that will bring us a little unexpected cash. :)

We had our college-age Bible study last night. We did a talk about finding your identity in Christ and when we left we both felt like it had kind of fallen flat. Then today I read one of the students' blogs and he talked about how he had needed to hear that and how afterward he was able to have a long talk with another student there about his struggles in his walk. It's so awesome how God can use our weakness and turn it around for his glory anyway!

On the baby front, I am 34 weeks today. The doctor said once you hit 34 weeks if you go into labor they just let it happen cause the baby will be fine. Whoa! That's kind of freaky, but also good, knowing that even if I would go early, the baby is developed and pretty ready for the world already anyway! One thing is for sure, this child is quite the mover and kicker. For the past couple days it has been in constant vigorous motion...to the point of hurting my insides! :p (At this very moment the poor little thing has the hiccups! I wonder if the Starbucks decaf that I'm drinking is too much for it?!)

We have our last childbirth class tomorrow night with a tour of the birthplace at the hospital where we'll be delivering. Then I have one more baby shower on the 6th and all the baby events are done--then it's just a matter of waiting for the main baby event!!! I can hardly wait to meet this little kicking person! :)

Lastly...the heat has finally broken and it is a lovely 68 degrees right now! I can actually go outside for more than 5 mintues at a time! Yeah!

There...I have done my blogging duty for now. Aren't you happy? :)

Gideon reinacting his rabbit kill with a pigear. Gross, huh? Posted by Picasa

Two down, one billion or so to go...

Gideon got rabbit number 2 this morning! Granted, he was finishing off the job that a neighborhood cat had started, but we'll still count it. He carried it all the way home like a trophy, got it into the backyard and gnawed out a few guts before Myron got it away from him. He had to be rinsed off due to his bloody muzzle and paws. Crazy rabbit-killing dog!

BP Woes

So at my last dr.'s appt. about a week and a half ago, but blood pressure was 140/90--which is the threshold for pregnancy induced hypertension. The doc told me to monitor it during the next two weeks and let her know if I didn't feel well or if it went up. So I bought a little digital bp monitor and have been taking my readings morning, lunchtime and in the evening. It was nice and normal all last week so I was reassured that my high reading was just white coat syndrome. But then the readings started inching up and yesterday my morning reading was 141/88 and I did not feel well at all. I called the doctor this morning and she wants me to take it really easy until my Friday appt. I've been laying around most of the day today and my readings have been going down so that's a good thing. I'm having some major Braxton-Hicks contractions though whenever I get up--I feel so tight--like I'd pop like a balloon if you stick a pin in me! I'm definitely feeling better tonight than I have since Sunday night, though. Last night I kept breaking down in tears which I'm sure didn't help things much--I was just feeling so freaked out and uncomfortable. I'm just praying that a few days of rest will get things stabilized so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

In news of a more fun sort, we are getting our crib and changing table tomorrow! I washed a couple loads of baby clothes so I can put them away in the changing table drawers...it will be fun to get things set up and all ready! Plus, Myron steam cleaned the recliner that we found at a rummage sale this week and besides one missing button it looks like new! I fell asleep in it this afternoon too so I know it is comfy!

Well, that's it from hugely pregnant lady for now. I'm going to go lay down again like a good girl! :)

Miscellaneous Stuff

I have no cohesive theme for today's post--just a list of various things that have happened since Monday:

Had a fun evening with my book club pals on Tuesday, even though I had to have fruit juice and sparkling water while everyone else had champagne punch. :) Those sweet gals brought baby gifts this month too! So many sweet, cute things!

Wednesday night I had my breastfeeding class. It made me feel very excited about having this baby and getting to bond with him/her in such a special way. It also made me realize how little I really know about the whole thing so I'm getting a book to read up on it in the next 7 weeks!

Thursday night was childbirth class and we got to practice baby care on these less than attractive dolls. We randomly selected one and when we practiced changing its diaper we discovered it was a boy...hmmm...wonder if that's a sign? :) It was pretty darn cute watching Myron practice bathing, changing and burping that doll. I kind of forget that he really doesn't have any experience with little babies since he was the youngest and he didn't babysit like I did. He's very willing to learn though...I know he'll catch on and be an expert papa really quickly! :)

Today on our way back from a very HOT walk with Gideon we stopped at our neighbor's rummage sale and bought a Lazy Boy recliner for $65 to go in the nursery! As cute as those glider rockers are, for comfort's sake I really wanted a rocker/recliner instead. This one is in a nice beige and just needs a cleaning which we can do with the upholstery attachment on our steam cleaner. Sixty-five dollars is a lot more in our budget than $500 or so for a new one! Yeah!

Tonight Myron is going over to Lansing to play in a Texas Hold 'Em tournament with my brother and I think I'll hit the mall and pick up a few birthday gifts for Myron (he'll be the big 34 next Saturday). I really need to be working on my last work project that is due Aug. 22, but it's a writing project and I'm struggling with some major writer's block...ugh!

We plan to get the crib and changing table next week so we can get the nursery all put together and ready...with only 7 weeks to go I'm starting to realize that we better get on the ball with that!! We also have to pick a pediatrician. So many things to do for such a little person! :)

So there you go...Molly's miscellaneous stuff. I know you wanted to know all that. hee-hee :p

One less rabbit...

After spending most of his short life in fruitless bunny chases, Gideon finally caught one this morning! And so much for our theory that he wouldn't know what to do with one when he caught it. Poor bunny got shaken, punctured and torn to death in quick order (so glad Myron was walking him when this happened!). We feel bad for the little thing, but must say we were happy for Gideon who was absolutely full of joy over his accomplishment. All I ask, buddy, is that you don't do that in front of the baby until he/she is old enough to understand the whole "circle of life" thing. THAT could be traumatic! :P

Two Days, Two Beaches, Lots of Fun!

We took full advantage of the warm summer sun these past two days and hit the beach! Friday we headed down to Michigan City, Indiana to visit with our sister-in-law Donna and her kids David and Katie who are here from Seattle. We only get to see them about twice a year so it was a real treat! Donna is staying with her sweet mom and stepdad who live in Michigan City and they graciously invited us to come spend the day. We spent a couple lovely hours at the beach with them and Donna's sister Nancy and her kids Amy, Ryan and Kelsey. We had a great time playing in the sand, dashing in and out of the FREEZING water, and getting caught up while we sat on the beach and chatted. Then we were treated to a delicious spread of great summer foods for supper. We didn't get home until about 11:30, but it was well worth the trip!

Today we headed up north to the Muskegon Dog Beach with my brother Joel and his wife Wendy and their pup Stokely plus their friends (who have now become ours as well because they are just so great!) JR and Tricia Miller and their cutie kids Hailey and Ethan. The water was once again FREEZING, but the sun was hot so it balanced out for the most part. Gideon surprised us by playing catch with the football and frisbee over and over. He has never retrieved anything that many times in his whole life! He definitely likes to swim! His problem, though, is that he doesn't really like Myron or I, or any other person, for that matter, to be in the water. I think he figures since we only have two legs that we're bound to drown if he doesn't keep a constant watch over us. So while he's swimming with you in the water he's also whining constantly and never letting you out of his site. He's going to be good when we have kids...he'll help us watch them! :)

Stokely wasn't too sure about the water...this was his first time swimming so I'm sure that big expanse of moving water was a bit intimidating for him! He caught on pretty quick though and was soon retrieving a stick like a pro.

Once while everyone else was out swimming and I was sitting on the beach I decided to talk to the baby about what was going on. It rewarded me for my story my moving around happily. I can't wait to take this little one to the beach and actually show him/her the water and the sand and puppies! :)

After the beach we hit the Frosty Oasis for ice cream and then headed back to our place for a cookout. It was a fun-filled day! And thankfully I didn't feel uncomfortably pregnant today so I really enjoyed myself.

Everyone headed home about an hour or so ago. Gideon is out cold on the floor beside me and I'm feeling like I could fall asleep pretty early tonight myself. I have that nice, sunbaked, summer sleepy feeling...sigh. (And a very red chest...oops...forgot the sunblock in a couple places!)

Thank you, God, for summer and beaches and friends and dogs. What great stuff you made! :)

Baby Shower Number 2!

Wow...this baby is so spoiled already and it isn't even born! My wonderful aunts Ruth and Shana threw me a great baby shower about 3 weeks ago. I'm finally getting around to doing a recap!

All the tables were decorated with brightly colored silk daisies and little towers of baby toys with baby blankets as tablecloths. They made a yummy brunch of cinnamon coffee cake, the best quiche I've ever tasted, and fresh fruit. My huge pile o'gifts were nicely arranged in a crib taken from the church nursery. We played a couple of games that were very fun and not at all cheesy or embarrassing...thanks, Ruth and Shana! ;)

Everyone just outdid themselves with the gifts too. We got so many cute outfits, blankets (including three handmade ones!), toys, diapers, and toiletries. We also recieved our pack and play (thanks, Mom!), a portable booster chair, some adorable stuffed friends (Eeyore and Piglet and a lamb that plays Jesus Loves Me), plus a bear that plays the "whoosh whoosh" sound of the womb to help sooth newborns! SO MANY great things!!! Thanks to everyone (thank you notes will be coming soon...I promise!)

My good pal Heidi is throwing me shower number 3 in August. I feel very loved! :)

Enjoy these few pictures of all the people who came to share my fun day with me...thanks everyone!

A bit blurry, but...Aunt Ruth Loney (who helped hostess and did an incredible job!), WCHS pal Amy Hoggatt, cousin Miranda Loney who also helped a bunch!, family friend and former piano teacher of mine, Becky Nordyke, Aunt Shana Hoffman and little Jacob (she hostessed too while trying to juggle a 5 year old, a 2 year old and a 10 week old!!), Aunt Amy Hoffman, and family friend Kathy Simmons Posted by Picasa

Sleep Update

After getting a deep muscle massage on my legs from my oh so wonderful husband, taking my calcium supplement, and avoiding a nap yesterday I slept soundly last night, in my own bed!!! :) Thank you, God!!!

WAAAHHHH!!!!

Up until 4:30 last night. This is so annoying.

Sleep--Oh, how I loved you...

Sleep is becoming hard to come by these days. I guess I should just get used to it since that's not going to change for a long time to come now! Last night I was so exhausted after working all day to finish a deadline--but I couldn't sleep to save my life.

Between heartburn, back pain, sore, stretching tummy muscles, having to pee every 30 minutes, and legs that felt like something was crawling all over them--plus what feels like a small brook trout swimming around inside me--I didn't finally drift off into any quality sleep until 5:30 this morning. I finally went down and laid on the couch at about 1:30 since I figured I was keeping Myron awake with all my tossing.

At about 8 AM a rip-roarin' thunderstorm hit and I was once again done sleeping. Sigh. Guess this is God's way of preparing me for motherhood of a newborn! Thanks...I guess.

On a happier note, check out this cuter than anything video made by my brother's pastor of his kids dancing. If it doesn't make you smile then you are in need of some serious therapy! ;)

Stinky beans

We just got back from picking up a loaner car from the body shop where they are fixing the SUV. We also pulled all the stuff out that was still in the back of the truck (we were coming back from a cookout so there were all kinds of cookout stuff--including some leftover brats!) STINKY!!! But thankfully the worst casualty of the wreck were the baked beans splattered all over the back...and the body shop said they'd steam clean the insides before we get it back. Whew!

We hadn't really seen the damage because we stayed on the opposite side of the truck from where it hit after the accident. It crunched one corner pretty good, but there was no engine damage...the fender and headlight took it all. Strangely the windshield is really cracked right in front of the passenger seat...it was just from the impact but it sure looks like a head hit there. Thankfully mine didn't!

After surveying the damage we feel thankful all over again. God is truly good to us!

God is Good

Just got back from my regularly scheduled doctor's checkup. It was good to get checked out again after the accident. Everything is good--even my blood pressure was normal the first time instead of high until they had me lay down for awhile like the last two times...yeah! And my glucose test was normal so I don't have to do the other longer glucose tolerance test...yeah! God is certainly taking good care of me and little Baby Bee. Thanks, Lord!

Another first tonight...

First childbirth class. Pray that Myron doesn't run screaming from the room...or pass out...or throw up...

He's going to get me for saying that... :)

I'm from Indiana

These are so true it is scary. Please don't think any less of me after you read them. I now live in Michigan and am a recovering Hoosier! ;)

You Know You're From Indiana When...

You drive for three hours and the scenery outside doesn't change.

There's three feet of snow on the ground and school is still in session.

You only go to the mall once a year 'cause it takes too long to get there.

While driving all you see is corn.

People still have Christmas decorations up at Easter.

You start saying to yourself "More than corn in Indiana my butt."

Anyone with a cell phone looks out of place.

Walking through Wal-Mart with two carts full of kids is normal.

Wnyone with a tan is rich.

The hip hang-out place is McDonald's.

There really is more than corn in Indiana. There’s soybeans, too.

When you plan an orgy and a Euchre game breaks out.

A restaurant has an invisible wall in the non-smoking section and you believe it works.

Speeding consists of 2 miles over the speed limit.

You think you don't have to use a turn signal on your car because you don't use it on your tractor.

You build your dream house on a cornfield, and you considered it posh.

You warsh your clothes and you think George Warshington was the first president.

You're proud to be called a Hoosier, even if you don't know what one is.

You have no problem spelling or pronouncing "Terre Haute"

Detassling was your first job. Bailing hay, your second.

You can stack hay, swim in the pond to clean off, and then have the strength to play a couple of games of hoops all in the same day.

You say things like "catty-wumpus" and "kitty-corner".

You own a dirtbike or a ATV.

You live in a city ... and there's a cornfield in your backyard.

High school basketball game draws a bigger crowd on the weekend nights than movie theaters.

You can see at least 2 basketball hoops from your yard.

You can name every one of Bob Knight's "exploits" over the last few years.

You shop at Marsh.

Damon Bailey was your childhood hero.

The biggest question of your youth was "IU or Purdue?"

Indianapolis is the "big city".

"Getting caught by a train" is a legitimate excuse for being late to school.

People at your high school chewed tobacco.

Everyone knows who the town cop is, where he lives, and whether he is at home or on duty.

You actually know what the CART vs IRL debate is about and have taken a side.

To you, a raccoon is simply a "coon".

The vehicle of choice in your area is not a car, but a pickup.

Someone you know is BIG John Mellencamp fan.

You've been to the Covered Bridge Festival.

To you, a tenderloin is not an expensive cut of beef, but a big, salty, breaded piece of pork served on a bun with pickles.

You call a green bell pepper a "mango".

Sometimes, you call the toilet the "commode" or the "stool".

In the fall, one of your favorite pranks was corning cars.

You know what FFA and 4H stand for.

You know what chip-and-seal is, and your high school was located on just such a road.

You go the county fair every night of it's week-long duration.

You can say "French Lick" without laughing out loud.

There's actually a college near you named "Ball State."

The last "g" is silent in any word ending in "ing."

You think the state Bird is Larry.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Indiana.

An interesting night of firsts

Last night was the night of firsts for us....

First day of summer...

First get-together with the newly graduated seniors who will be joining our college group at church (had a fun cookout at the big lake)...

Then, on the way home at about 11:30, we had our first car accident! Not nearly as fun as the other two firsts.

I had my first ride in an ambulance. (No sirens, just lights.)

I had my first experience with being wheeled on a stretcher into the ER (it's nothing like the show! Things are pretty quiet at 12:30 am in Grand Rapids).

Had my first few hour stay in the OB ward (at least we got a first hand preview of where we'll be having the baby!)

Whew...what a night.

We were heading down Chicago Drive back from the lake (for those of you familiar with the area) and were going through a flashing yellow light when the other driver pulled out in front of us on a flashing red. Wow is it loud when cars crash! And then there was an airbag magically appearing before my eyes and lots of stinky airbag smoke. Myron was so sweet...he jumped out and was opening the door and undoing my seat belt before I could even think to do it myself. He practically carried me out and away from the car. It was really overwhelming to see that protective love in his face. What a wonderful husband I have!

The other drivers looked to be a young teenage couple. The boy had hit his mouth and was bleeding, but the girl was okay. Thankfully I don't think his injury was serious. We had people coming out of the woodwork to check on us and I bet 911 got about 6 calls between us and them. Everyone was so kind.

When the ambulance showed up they suggested that I go with them to get the baby checked out. I didn't feel hurt but felt a little tight in my tummy so after some thought I decided to have my first ambulance ride. The baby was moving around again by the time we arrived which was a big relief to me!

At the hospital they checked me out and asked lots of questions and then put a fetal heart monitor on for 20 mintues. After that they took me up to a room in the OB wing and monitored the baby for another couple hours. Myron finally got there and we both sat there feeling sleepy and watched the end of Spaceballs. :P

They told me at once time that I would be monitored for 2 hours. Then they said 4. Then they said my doctor might want me to stay 24 hours...they would have to call and find out. Thankfully we were home by about 3:00 though, since everything was checking out absolutely fine. The baby was rolling and bopping around like usual and making the heart monitor make loud noises with every move. I don't think Baby Bee felt anything but a big slosh! :)

After quick showers we were in our own bed and asleep...and oh so thankful to our watchful Father in heaven that we were safe and together.

This morning (well afternoon, since I slept until almost noon!) I was watching Myron through the kitchen window playing with the dog in the yard. You realize how very precious life is...how sweet every day things like playing with your pets or hugging your spouse truly are when you see how quickly something could happen to change that forever. Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to be reminded of that--and for your protective hand.

IT'S ALIVE...IT'S AAALLLLIVVVEEE!

Okay...so I feel like I have a bit of a weird science experiement going on inside me these days. The baby is rolling and bouncing around like some kind of large trout or something. On the one hand I am very glad because I always know it's doing okay. On the other hand sometimes it feels really weird and is downright painful (especially when little feet/hands/elbows/knees poke me). Oh well...that's okay Baby Bee...you poke all you want. Not like you can probably help it since you're living in a place the size of a small soccer ball! :)

Had an AWESOME baby shower this past weekend. When I have more time I'll post some pics and details. Right now I have to go get ready for our big summer kick-off at the lake with our LifeStream gang. The newly graduated seniors are joining us for the first time tonight, so we want to make a good impression and keep them coming back for more.

Better go shower and see what summer clothes I can fit my odd shaped body into! :)

I Love the 80's Lyrics Challenge

Try your hand at this quiz of 80's lyrics. I got a 73.5, but probably would have had at least 75 without some spelling errors...oops! Enjoy!

Hic...Hic...Hic...

Baby has started getting the hiccups this week. This can vary from feeling like a little tickle to me to an all over stomach convulsion. Poor thing had the convulsion kind at 2:30 am last night. If the activity level of this child at night right now is any indication of its sleeping habits come September we are in for some LOOONNNGGG nights!

The Molly Show Week in Review

Highlights in the week of Molly:

Worked most of the week on an editing project for Zondervan. Then on Thursday I was copied on an email from the author of the project. He was unhappy about his stuff getting cut so much and other various issues. I am determined if I ever become an author in my own right I will not act like most authors I've worked with as an editor. Blah...they tend to be annoying. So, even with a deadline of June 22 looming I was told to hold off until they could work things out with the author's attorney. Ugh.

One good thing about not having to work this weekend was that the nursery got cleaned out finally. It's not terribly organized yet, but I cleaned out about 6 boxes of miscellaneous junk so that there is actually room in the nice walk-in closet now to, well, WALK IN! :) I had kept so many weird things from my past that I finally said "so long" to--dead, dried flowers given to me by someone I don't remember, all my notes from college classes, letters from old boyfriends (sorry, guys, they went bye-bye), craft projects from Bible school...you name it, it was in that closet. I must be growing up...I was able to toss a lot of it without feeling bad at all! :)

Friday night Myron and I went to TGIFriday's for dinner over at the "big mall." It's been stormy off and on all week and while we were in there it started thundering pretty loud. Then we saw on the TV in the bar that there was a possible tornado in the area. When we finished dinner and started to go walk around in the mall we noticed that several stores were closing and people were being ushered into the side hallways where deliveries come in. It was very weird...we weren't sure what to do, so we left. There wasn't even any rain on our way home. On the news later it said that a funnel cloud was spotted right over where we were, but it didn't touch down. What a strange experience!

The least fun part of the week came last night. I didn't feel very well...felt like I might be getting a bladder infection, but thankfully the feeling passed after a few hours. But then I couldn't sleep to save my life last night. I ended up reading in the living room until 3:30 (Rumors of Another World by Philip Yancey...very good read!) The baby kept me company--bouncing around like Tigger in my belly at 3 AM! (I was spooning with Myron when we first turned out the lights and the baby kept kicking him in the back. I had to move so he could sleep!) So, poor Myron went to church alone today so I could sleep in. Poo. I hate missing church.

At least I'm feeling pretty okay now that I'm up. No naps today! Maybe that will help me sleep better! Why is it that I can sleep fine during the day, but not at night? Perhaps it is just God's way of preparing me for what's in store come September! Oh boy.

Coming up this week: Road trip to Indiana for my second baby shower! Woo-hoo!

Heading for the home stretch

I hit the 27 week mark yesterday so I'm about to enter my THIRD trimester. I have to say that so far it has gone really fast. I hear that time seems to slow down toward the end since you're so uncomfortable you feel like popping, but so far, so good!

Pregnancy symptoms at 27 weeks now include:

Acne (just call me Mrs. Craterhead...ugh)
Occasionally feeling either sad or irritable for no good reason (I've had very few mood swings during this pregnancy which is a miracle for someone as emotional as me!)
Trouble sleeping--even my gianormous body pillow isn't really helping. It's hard to get comfy when you feel like you have a beachball strapped to your front--a beach ball containing a hyper squirrel. :)
I have to pee about every half hour from the time I get up until about 2 or 3 AM. That doesn't help the sleeping problem either.
I'm eating like a pig these days!

The most fun "symptom" though is this gymnast of a baby flipping around all the time! This morning Myron rolled over and put his hand on my tummy and the baby was just going wild...it felt like it was pawing at me with a hand or pushing its little elbow out. Myron was fascinated and put his face down by my belly and asked the baby what it was doing. It immediately stopped moving! It knows Daddy's voice already! :)

What a miracle this is...we are truly fearfully and wonderfully made! I know that full well even more now!

I love presents!

Last night we showed up at a barbeque for the young adult group we help lead at our church and it turned out to be a surprise baby shower instead! Super fun! We got a ton of great stuff...I felt so spoiled! Baby presents are so fun...everything is soft and cute. Interestingly there seemed to be a bit of an accidental giraffe theme. Lots of the clothes we got had giraffes on them. Probably because we don't know if it's a boy or girl so we got lots of yellow clothes.

I have a deadline to work on today and all I really want to do is go spread out all my new baby stuff and look at it! I'll try to work first and let that be my reward for getting something done. Sigh. :)
